After dropping the series opener to the Chicago Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers faced quite the challenge in Jake Arrieta. The right-hander turned in seven scoreless innings, with his effort matched by Scott Kazmir.

Kazmir held the Cubs to just one hit and had seven strikeouts over six shutout frames. After giving up a one-out single in the third inning, Kazmir picked off Dexter Fowler. Clayton Richard took over for the Cubs in the eighth inning and promptly gave up leadoff single to Chase Utley and infield single to Corey Seager.

Adrian Gonzalez then slapped an opposite-field RBI single to break the scoreless stalemate. Adam Warren replaced Richard and allowed a sacrifice fly to Howie Kendrick before managing to get out of the inning.

After Joe Blanton turned in a second scoreless inning of relief, the Dodgers added to their lead in the ninth. With Carl Craford and Kiké Hernandez on base with two outs, Corey Seager turned on a pith for a three-run home run, via the Dodgers Twitter account::

Seager finished the night 3-for-5, with three RBIs and two runs scored. The Dodgers’ 5-0 victory snapped the Cubs’ 23-game winning streak in Arrieta starts.
