Dodgers Video: Cody Bellinger Struggles To Identify Steve Urkel And Mario Lopez

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger has made headlines early in his career not only for his play of the field, launching 33 home runs in his first 93 games, but also for not knowing who Jerry Seinfeld is, as became evident during an interview with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt.

Due to that lack of pop culture knowledge, ESPN’s Buster Olney recently put the 22-year-old to the test, showing him pictures of famous celebrities from the 1990s.

Bellinger was able to identify some, such as Will Smith, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, but he struggled with others.

Specifically, Bellinger confused Steve Urkel from the popular television sitcom, “Family Matters,” or Squints from “The Sandlot,” or as Bellinger called him, “Squirts.”

Additionally, when shown a picture of Mario Lopez and the rest of the cast from “Saved By the Bell,” he thought it was John Stamos and the “Full House” cast.

While recognizing actors from his childhood may not be Bellinger’s strength, hitting home runs is, as he’s only two shy of matching Mike Piazza’s Dodgers rookie record for most in a season.

On the season Bellinger is batting .267/.344/.617 with 18 doubles, two triples and a team-high 76 RBIs. Bellinger’s 33 home runs are the most by a Dodgers player since Matt Kemp hit 39 in 2011.
