Dodgers Video: Andre Ethier Hits First Home Run Of 2017 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers were in an all-too-familiar position as they trailed the Colorado Rockies after two innings. Alex Wood managed to work around some traffic in the first, aided by Cody Bellinger’s risky attempt to get an out at third base paying off.

Trevor Story’s two-run home run and RBI singles from Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado gave the Rockies a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The Dodgers began to mount a comeback in the fourth, aided by sloppy defensive play by the Rockies.

Two batters after Chris Taylor reached on Arenado’s throwing error, he scored the Dodgers’ first run of the game on Justin Turner’s base hit to center field.

Cody Bellinger’s chopper up the first-base line skipped off Mark Reynolds’ glove and went for a double. Yasiel Puig’s grounder to third base kicked off Arenado’s glove, resulting in a two-run double.

The Rockies got a run back in the fifth, which loomed large. Wood was pinch-hit for by Andre Ethier, and he delivered a solo home run. The homer was Ethier’s first since Game 1 of the 2016 National League Championship Series and just his second overall hit this season.

For a second consecutive year an injury has limited the veteran outfielder to only time in September. During Spring Training in 2016, Ethier suffered a spiral fracture in his tibia, and this past spring was hampered by a herniated disc.

His home run, and Logan Forsythe’s in the ninth inning, were not enough as the Dodgers lost a ninth consecutive game. Their nine-game losing streak is the longest in franchise history in the past 25 years.
