Dodgers Updates: Blake Treinen Begins Rehab Assignment With Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back Tyler Glasnow from the 60-day injured list on Wednesday and hope to see the returns of Blake Treinen and Blake Snell over the next month or so.

This week is of particular note for Treinen and Snell as they begin respective rehab assignments. For Treinen, that started Wednesday night with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He started as an opener for the Comets and retired the side in order in the first inning. Treinen struck out two of three batters faced and needed just 12 pitches (eight strikes) to get through the perfect inning.

It was an extension of what the veteran displayed during his instances of facing hitters in live batting practice at Dodger Stadium in the last week.

Treinen has been on the injured list since April 19 because of a right forearm sprain. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 1 amid an expected prolonged recovery process.

“I think with Blake, just appreciating the fact that we’re going to need him in the second half and beyond, we have time. So take the time that way when he gets back, we can just go from there and not look back,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said during April.

Treinen did not start a throwing progression until the middle of May. He then twice faced batters before beginning a rehab assignment.

Treinen’s absence has further strained a Dodgers bullpen that’s also gone stretches without Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates because of respective injuries. Brusdar Graterol has yet to pitch this year as he recovers from offseason right shoulder surgery and Evan Phillips underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery.

When is Blake Treinen returning?

Roberts indicated the expectation was for Treinen to be back with the Dodgers “shortly after the All-Star break.”

That will afford the 37-year-old an opportunity to make multiple appearances on his rehab assignment, whether he completes it entirely with the Comets or joins another Dodgers Minor League affiliate at some point.

Snell’s first rehab start is coming with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.
