Dodgers Trade Robinson Ortiz To Mariners For Tyler Gough

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Robinson Ortiz to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for fellow Minor League pitcher Tyler Gough.

The move was announced shortly after reports of the Mariners kickstarting free agency by reportedly nearing an agreement with Josh Naylor on a five-year contract that’s believed to be worth $90-100 million.

Ortiz had been part of the Dodgers organization since signing as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic on June 2, 2017. He came stateside the following year and began a steady climb up the Minor League ranks after pitching for the Dodgers’ Arizona League rookie affiliate in 2018.

Though, he missed the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Ortiz spent all of last season with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, where he went 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in six games.

Ortiz began this year with High-A Great Lakes and went 1-2 with a 3.74 ERA and three saves across 18 appearances before earning a promotion to Double-A Tulsa. Upon joining the Drillers, the southpaw pitched to a 1.69 ERA and was 3-0 with one save in 15 games.

Ortiz was promoted for a second time this year on Aug. 12 and went on to finish the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He went 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and one save in 15 games (one start) for the Comets.

Overall in his Minor League career, the 25-year-old is 17-12 with a 3.48 ERA in 99 games (41 starts) across six seasons.

The Dodgers recently added Ortiz to their 40-man roster as part of a flurry of moves that included removing Tony Gonsolin and Michael Grove. Both right-handers have since gone on to become free agents.

Dodgers trade for Tyler Gough

Gough, a San Diego native, was drafted by the Mariners in the ninth round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He attended JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano.

The right-hander went 1-3 with a 5.70 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) for Single-A Modesto in his first professional season in 2023. He remained with the Nuts for all of 2024, going 7-4 with a 2.23 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 23 starts.

Gough averaged 9.31 strikeouts per nine innings last season for Modesto. The 22-year-old missed the entire 2025 season due to recovering from Tommy John surgery conducted in September 2024.

At the time of his procedure, Gough was projected to make a recovery in time for Spring Training in 2026. Gough was not on the Mariners’ 40-man roster at the time of being traded.
