Dodgers Trade Bryan Hudson To Brewers for Justin Chambers

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Bryan Hudson to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Justin Chambers and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Hudson was on waivers after being designated for assignment last week as the corresponding move to making room for Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. Had Hudson cleared waivers, he likely would’ve remained part of the Dodgers organization in the Minor Leagues.

Hudson appeared in six games for the Dodgers during the 2023 season, pitching to a 7.27 ERA and 1.85 WHIP. He was much better for Triple-A Oklahoma City, where Hudson went 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 46 games (eight starts).

Opportunities for Hudson were limited despite joining the Dodgers roster on four separate occasions last year. Ahead of him among left-handers in the Dodgers bullpen were Caleb Ferguson, Victor González, Alex Vesia and Ryan Yarbrough.

Hudson originally joined the Dodgers in December 2022 when he was signed to a Minor League contract. The 26-year-old now gets a change to compete for a spot in the Brewers bullpen that is in need of a left-hander.

Dodgers acquire 2023 Draft pick Justin Chambers

Along with clearing room for Yamamoto, the Dodgers have now added a 2023 MLB Draft pick to their organization by trading Hudson for Chambers.

A left-handed relief pitcher himself, Chambers was a heralded prospect out of Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona. He was selected by the Brewers in the 20th round of the 2023 Draft and signed for over slot at $547,500 despite being in the midst of recovering from Tommy John surgery.

The operation prevented Chambers from making his professional debut in 2023. Chambers had been committed to attend Arizona State University.
