Dodgers Spring Training News: Jaime Schultz Optioned To Minor League Camp

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Monday they have optioned right-handed pitcher Jaime Schultz to Minor League camp.

The Dodgers acquired Schultz early this past offseason in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays after he was designated for assignment. The 27-year-old appeared in 22 games for the Rays in 2018, going 2-2 with a 5.64 ERA, 5.40 FIP and 1.15 WHIP while striking out 35 and walking 17 in 30.1 innings.

Schultz got off to a good start to the spring with the Dodgers, tossing seven shutout innings in his first seven Cactus League appearances.

He struggled in his most recent outing on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing four runs while recording just one out. He only gave up one hit but struggled with his control and walked three batters.

While Schultz will not be in the Dodgers bullpen to begin the season, he will provide valuable depth at Triple-A Oklahoma City. If he pitches well, there is a good chance that he will see time at the big league level at some point in during the 2019 season.

The club now has 37 players remaining in big league camp, including 14 infielders/outfielders, 20 pitchers and three catchers. More roster cuts figure to lie in the days ahead.
