Dodgers Spring Training News & Notes: Updates On Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler & Russel Martin; Corey Seager Out Sick

As is the case for any team throughout the course of Spring Training, the Los Angeles Dodgers currently have a few players dealing with bumps and bruises after getting back into the swing of things.

Chief among the team’s injuries is to ace Clayton Kershaw, who has yet to throw in a game this spring due to shoulder inflammation. Kershaw has been playing catch just about every day and seems to be making progress, leaving both him and the organization feeling encouraged.

With Opening Day on the horizon, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts admitted that time may be running out to for Kershaw to prepare to make his franchise-record ninth straight start in a season opener.

Even if he is not ready by the beginning of the season, Kershaw continuing to progress and feel healthy is the most important thing. He is playing catch again on Wednesday as he continues to increase his intensity, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Clayton Kershaw will continue throwing today. No date set to throw off a mound.

Another pitcher who has yet to take the mound this spring is last year’s rookie sensation, Walker Buehler. He is not dealing with an injury but has been slow-played so far this spring after tossing a career-high in innings a year ago.

It appears Buehler is throwing a bullpen session on Wednesday as he begins to ramp things up for the start of the season:

Walker Buehler will throw a bullpen session today, live batting practice later in the week.

As was expected to be the case from the beginning of the spring, shortstop Corey Seager also has not played in a Cactus League game to this point. Coming off Tommy John and hip surgeries, Seager is feeling optimistic with where he is at in his recovery after beginning to take live at-bats and throwing across the diamond.

He is out of camp on Wednesday due to an illness though:

Corey Seager is out today ill. Elbow and hip still fine.

Roberts gave one final injury update on Russell Martin, who has been dealing with minor back soreness for the last few days. He may be back in the lineup as soon as this weekend, but he is still listed as day-to-day:

Dave Roberts said Russell Martin is still day to day with lower back soreness.

Outside of Kershaw, Seager and Martin, the Dodgers have luckily remained relatively healthy so far this spring. Hopefully, that will remain the case as Opening Day inches closer and closer.
