After spending his entire 13-year career in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform, former catcher Mike Scioscia and the organization have always shared an affinity and respect for each other.

As a player, Scioscia won two World Series championships (1981 and 1988) with the Dodgers, and one as manager of the Anaheim Angels in 2002.

Sciosia was a player and coach who left an imprint on those around him, including helping Orel Hershiser in key areas of the game.

Sciosia recently found himself once again helping out younger players in the Dodgers organization during Spring Training, and according to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Former Dodgers catcher and Angels manager Mike Scioscia was in the Dodgers’ spring training camp last week. Scioscia worked with the catchers in minor-league camp for a few days. Ron Roenicke – a special assistant in the Dodgers’ front office and a coach on Scioscia’s Angels staff for several years – brokered the visit by Scioscia.

Scioscia was always ahead of his peers as a player with scouting reports and his ability to break down pitches and swings. He was able to earn the trust of his pitchers and garnered a reputation of not only an elite game caller but a superb defensive catcher with a long career.

His viewpoint on baseball aligns with the Dodgers’ philosophy, to have all of the information necessary to be successful, so in whichever capacity Scioscia is able to help those on the minor league side of camp, could be of great value.

Scioscia guided Team USA to Silver Medal

After 19 seasons as the Angels manager and not managing since 2018, Scioscia was recently the skipper for the USA Baseball National Team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The United States ended up losing to Japan in the championship game. Former Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp was invited to try out for the team but ultimately didn’t make the roster.
