Dodgers Spring Training Highlights: Corey Seager, Justin Turner Perfect Against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped on the Colorado Rockies early and pulled away in the middle innings to cruise to a 12-5 blowout at Salt River Fields, completing a Cactus League sweep of their National League West counterparts this spring.

The Dodgers outscored the Rockies 22-5 in their two meetings this year. It could be an indication of what’s to come during the regular season, starting Opening Day when the teams begin a four-game series at Coors Field.

Like he has been all spring, Corey Seager was heavily involved. He singled in the first inning and came around to score on Justin Turner’s triple. Seager later went the other way for a fifth home run in his past six games. Four of those homers have gone to the opposite field.

“He’s just playing really good baseball and kind of picking up where he left off last year. I just think the thing it kind of goes back to is health,” Dodgers manager Dave Roebrts said after the win. “He feels good, his body is moving right and the results are certainly there.”

Batting second and third, respectively, Seager and Turner combined to go 4-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI and two walks. Turner’s walk came with the bases loaded and capped off a two-run second inning.

Seager’s home run in the fourth extended the Dodgers’ lead to 7-2, and Zach McKinstry’s two-run homer in the fifth inning created more separation. DJ Peters added an RBI single in the eighth and James outman hit a two-run triple in the ninth inning.

Dodgers pleased with May Day

Dustin May took the mound for his first start of the year and second overall appearance. He was dominant in the first inning, a bit shaky in the second after sitting for a long period, and effective again in his final frame.

“I thought the fastball command was good, I thought there were some good breaking balls in there. The cutter, there were some good ones in there,” Roberts said. “It just didn’t kind of go left the way we like it to against the left-handed hitter, but the velocity was good.

“The ball is coming out really well. To get him through three, I thought was a positive for all of us. Talking to Dustin after, he felt good, so another good outing.”
