It’s no secret the Los Angeles Dodgers have a talented team and farm system, and they have shown that with strong play so far this spring. After earning a 9-4 comeback victory over the L.A. Angels on Wednesday, the Dodgers improved to 3-1-1 in Cactus League play.

The Dodgers’ pitching staff has been as good as advertised through the first week of play, but it was the bats that finally broke out in the win over the Angels at Camelback Ranch.

Cody Bellinger has picked up where he left off last season, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and walk to improve his Cactus League on-base percentage to 1.070.

The big hit among the players that started the game came from prospect Zach McKinstry though as he delivered a two-run triple off the top of the wall in the sixth inning. He went 2-for-3 and is now hitting .333 with a .956 OPS in his first big league Spring Training action. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Gavin Lux have been among those to rave about the talents of the infielder.

Perhaps no one has impressed more this spring than Cody Thomas though. The former Oklahoma Sooners backup quarterback had a great all-around game Monday, hitting and robbing a home run in a win over the Chicago White Sox to raise the eyebrows of the Dodgers’ coaching staff.

He continued to impress with a towering three-run home run to right in the eighth inning to seal the victory over the Angels. The 25-year-old is now hitting .333 with a 1.620 OPS in limited action this spring and is now on the radar of the front office moving forward.

On the mound, Dodgers top prospect Josiah Gray got the start and pitched a scoreless inning, allowing just one single in his first outing of the spring. Kenley Jansen, Joe Kelly, Caleb Ferguson, Jordan Sheffield and Mitchell White all also tossed scoreless frames.
