Dodgers Spring Training: Gavin Lux Heartbroken Over Torn ACL

The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to be without Gavin Lux for the entire 2023 season after an MRI revealed he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee along with some damage to the LCL.

The 25-year-old was in line to take over the starting shortstop job this year. “It’s heartbreaking,” Lux said after learning of the MRI results. “You put in a lot of time and work, and really enjoy the guys in the clubhouse. The hardest part is not being able to be on the field.”

Lux suffered the injury during the sixth inning of Monday’s game against the San Diego Padres. He attempted to avoid a throw while running from second base to third base, and stumbled to the ground in the process.

Lux immediately grabbed at his right knee area and was carted off the field. “I tried to duck out of the way of the throw, and I think my cleat kind of got stuck into the ground a little bit,” he explained.

“It straightened out a little funky and bowed out, and kind of rolled up on my ankle too. Freak thing. I don’t even think it’s really avoidable. In hindsight, I probably should’ve just took the throw to the nose and worn it. [Expletive] happens. I’ll just crush the rehab and move on.”

Lux is keeping a positive mindset and will do everything in his power to be back on the field in 2024. “I haven’t even seen the video. Honestly, I probably won’t ever look at it,” Lux began.

“[Expletive] happens. Control what you can control. Crush my rehab and try to be ready for 2024 when it rolls around. It’s kind of all you can do.”

Gavin Lux grateful for support from Dodgers teammates

As Lux faces a long road to recovery, he appreciates the support he has received from his Dodgers teammates. “A ton. I feel like pretty much everybody has come up to me and give me a hug,” Lux said.

“It just shows how good these guys in the clubhouse are.”
