Dodgers Spring Training: Dave Roberts Deems Top Pitching Prospect Dustin May ‘The Biggest Standout’

The Los Angeles Dodgers saw a glimpse of their future excel during Spring Training in the form of top pitching prospect Dustin May, who flashed his potential with multiple stellar outings throughout Cactus League play.

In four games (one start), the right-hander pitched to a superb 1.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with eight strikeouts against three walks across nine innings of work.

May held opposing batters to a .194 batting average and made a great impression on the big league coaching staff, to which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts especially took notice.

Because of the success he enjoyed on the mound, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts deemed Dustin May as the biggest standout of Spring Training, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“Dustin May,” he said. “Dustin May is probably the biggest standout. Much more advanced (than expected). Then just the makeup, his presence, the feel. Everything.”

May is expected to pitch in Tuesday’s Freeway Series finale against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim before presumably being optioned to the Minors, where he’s expected to begin the year and look to build off a promising 2018 campaign.

Still just 21 years old, the fact that May is already receiving rave reviews and praise from the Dodgers staff certainly bodes well for his future with the organization.

He has caught the eye of Roberts on multiple occasions this spring, who previously remarked he wouldn’t be surprised if May or fellow top pitching prospect Tony Gonsolin contribute for the Dodgers at some point in 2019.
