Dodgers Spring Training: Bobby Miller ‘Not Nervous’ About Returning To Mound

Bobby Miller is on the mend after taking a 106 mph line drive to the forehead during his appearance in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Cactus League opener against the Chicago Cubs.

The right-hander went into concussion protocol but fortunately did not sustain any sort of fracture from the scary incident.

“Hard head, no broken bones of fractures,” Miller said. “Just a bruise and whatever else. Scans came back healthy, so I’m really thankful for that.”

Miller said that he tried to avoid the ball but could not get out of the way in time. “Normally a comebacker looks slow motion to you, but this one, he hit it pretty hard,” he began.

“I kind of just blinked, and I was on the ground. I tried to get out of the way or block it with my glove, but I wasn’t quick enough.”

Miller resumed throwing Monday and expressed confidence he won’t experience a mental block whenever he returns to the mound in a game.

“Not really. Right now I’m not nervous to go out there, but when that moment comes, we’ll see what happens,” Miller explained. “All I’m thinking about is just getting healthy and getting back on that field soon, because that’s what I really want.”

Bobby Miller watched replay of comebacker

Miller used to look away whenever a pitcher got hit with a comebacker but now is less afraid of the situation after it happened to him.

“Yeah, probably 100 times,” Miller answered when asked if he has watched the replay of him getting hit. “Whenever I’ve seen a video of a pitcher getting hit in the head, I’ve never been able to watch the video. I’ve always been like, ‘Get that out of my face.’

“I always feared that, but now that it’s happened, I’ve been able to watch it. Scary moment, but it’s all good. I’m all right.”
