The Los Angeles Dodgers announced the signing of Terrance Gore to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training. Gore joins the organization on the first day position players were officially due to report to Camelback Ranch.

The Dodgers previously announced a group of 21 players who received an invite to big league camp this year, headlined by prospects Josiah Gray and Jeter Downs. Of course, Downs has since been traded, as he was included in the blockbuster deal with the Boston Red Sox.

Gore was with the Kansas City Royals last season until being designated for assignment in July. The move was to clear room on the Royals’ 40-man roster for the promotion of Bubba Starling from Triple-A Omaha.

After spending the 2018 season with the Chicago Cubs, Gore returned to the Royals for 2019 when he signed a one-year contract. He held a limited role but produced to the tune of a .275/.362/.353 batting line with two doubles and one RBI over 37 games.

Of course, Gore’s value lies with his speed, and he was 13-for-18 in stolen base attempts. Over parts of six Major League seasons he’s swiped 40 of 49 bags.

The 28-year-old did not appear in the Majors after being acquired by the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. Gore struggled with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, hitting .164/.324/.255 with three doubles, one triple and one RBI in 21 games.

Gore presumably will begin the 2020 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but with his speed and defensive versatility, could very well spend various stretches up with the Dodgers throughout the year.

The Dodgers have not yet outlined how they may use the newly created 26th spot on the active roster, but it’s likely to be used on an extra outfielder or utility man.
