Dodgers Rumors: Trevor Bauer’s Administrative Leave Extended To July 27

When the Los Angeles Dodgers were made aware of sexual assault allegations against Trevor Bauer, they issued a statement that deferred to Major League Baseball and didn’t take any disciplinary action themselves.

The Dodgers were prohibited from such due to MLB launching an investigation, and after multiple days of Bauer remaining with the team, he was placed on seven-day administrative leave. Putting Bauer on the restricted list did not require MLB to gain approval from the Players Association, but extending it beyond that has.

Bauer not only didn’t exercise his right to appeal the initial administrative leave, but he and the MLBPA have cooperated with the league in extending it.

That occurred last week when the leave was pushed for another seven days, and it has now happened for a second time but with Bauer’s absence running at least through July 17, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network:

League source confirms MLB and MLBPA have agreed to extend Trevor Bauer’s admin leave to July 27th.

— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 14, 2021

MLB and the MLBPA agreeing to a date later in the month is noteworthy in that Bauer is scheduled to appear in court for hearing on July 23 with regards to the temporary restraining order that is in place.

In addition to MLB conducting their investigation, the Pasadena Police Department is also completing their own. Charges have not been brought against Bauer, who continues to receive his salary while on administrative leave.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred does retain the authority to suspend Bauer — for which he would not be paid — even if his situation does not escalate into a criminal case.

Dodgers remove Bauer bobblehead

While the Dodgers have deferred matters to MLB, they did remove Bauer’s bobblehead giveaway from their 2021 promotional calendar. The team also is no longer selling merchandise with his name in stores located at Dodger Stadium or on their website.
