Dodgers Rumors: Magic Johnson Joins Bidding For Denver Broncos

It has been more than a decade since Frank McCourt sold the Los Angeles Dodgers to Guggenheim Baseball Management for a then-record $2 billion. The group was headed by principle owner Mark Walter and included team president and CEO Stan Kasten, along with part-owners Todd Boehly, Peter Guber, Magic Johnson and Bobby Patton.

Johnson of course enjoyed a Hall of Fame playing career with the L.A. Lakers and recently spent two years as the franchise’s president of basketball operations, during which time he held a major role in recruiting LeBron James.

Johnson remains active in the sports world, as in addition to being a part-owner of the Dodgers, he also has a minority stake in the WNBA’s L.A. Sparks.

Johnson now is looking to expand his business ventures. According to Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams of Sportico, he has joined a bid group being led by Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Josh Harris for the NFL’s Denver Broncos:

Earvin “Magic” Johnson is entering the bidding for the Denver Broncos, according to someone familiar with the move.

The former NBA star has joined the bid group being led by Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Josh Harris, according to the person, who was granted anonymity because the details are private.

The Broncos were valued at $3.75 million last year, so it is very likely the franchise will sell for more than $4 billion.

The Broncos have been among the busiest teams in the NFL this offseason as they changed head coaches and pulled off a major trade with the Seattle Seahawks for quarterback Russell Wilson.

Magic Johnson makes World Series prediction

The Dodgers had several dignitaries on hand for Jackie Robinson Day at Dodger Stadium last month, including Johnson, who spoke with SportsNet LA reporter Kirsten Watson during an interview that was played on the Dodger Stadium video board.

Johnson highlighted Robinson’s everlasting impact and credited him for breaking several barriers. Among them was Johnson becoming the first Black owner in MLB history.

The conversation then shifted to the 2022 Dodgers and it came with yet another World Series prediction.

“We’re going to win it all this season,” Johnson told Watson, much to the delight of Dodgers fans.
