As the MLB lockout has surpassed two months long, teams have been limited to Minor League signings, front office and coaching staff changes, broadcast team plans throughout most of the offseason.

The Los Angeles Dodgers thus far were active in filling out their organizational depth, and recently did some reshuffling in their front office that most prominently saw Brandon Gomes promoted to general manager.

The Dodgers have not announced any changes with their SportsNet LA broadcast team or radio crew, but that may soon change.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group, Jose Mota will become a Dodgers broadcaster after leaving the L.A. Angels:

Long-time Angels broadcaster Jose Mota is expected to be one of multiple additions to the Dodgers’ broadcast team for the 2022 season.

Mota announced on his Instagram account last week that he was leaving the Angels and Bally Sports West after 20 years. He did not provide any details behind the decision, or suggest what possibly was on the horizon.

Mota had worked Angels broadcasts in English and Spanish, both on radio and television, since joining the franchise in 2002. He additionally served as a translator for players and also been part of Fox broadcasts of the Caribbean Series.

As a player, Mota was selected out of California State University, Fullerton, by the Chicago White Sox in the second round of the 1985 MLB Draft. The middle infielder made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 1991, and also played for the Kansas City Royals four years later.

Mota gives Dodgers second father-son duo

Once the Dodgers announce the hire of Mota, it would unite him with father Manny Mota. They would become the second father-son duo to have worked for the Dodgers, following in the footsteps of Jorge and Jaime Jarrín.

Jorge retired after the 2020 season, and Jaime is now entering his 64th and final season as the Dodgers’ Spanish play-by-play announcer.
