Dodgers Rumors: Farhan Zaidi Potentially Returning To Front Office

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of an unprecedented stretch that includes 12 consecutive postseason appearances, 11 National League West titles, four pennants and two World Series championships since 2013.

The Dodgers went an MLB-best 379-270 (.584) under then-general manager Farhan Zaidi from 2015-2018 before he left the organization to become president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants.

Zaidi led the Giants to some success, but he was let go this past September and replaced by longtime catcher Buster Posey.

Zaidi’s next move could be returning to the Dodgers front office in an undisclosed role, via Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:

The Los Angeles Dodgers are talking to their former general manager and ex-San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi about returning to the organization, league sources told The Athletic on Tuesday.

No deal has been finalized, and the role Zaidi would play in the Dodgers’ front office is unclear.

While it is unclear what role Zaidi would play with the Dodgers, a return to general manager can be ruled out as Brandon Gomes has served in that capacity since the 2022 season.

Prior to his first stint with the Dodgers, Zaidi spent 10 seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. He started as a baseball operations analyst in 2005 before being promoted to director of baseball operations in 2009, and assistant general manager/director of baseball operations in 2014.

With the Athletics, Zaidi’s primary responsibilities included providing statistical analysis for evaluating and targeting players in the amateur draft, free agent and trade markets.

He also assisted on arbitration cases and contract negotiations, and worked closely with the coaching staff during the season in analyzing data from advance scouting reports.

Farhan Zaidi’s background before baseball

Before entering baseball, Zaidi served as business development associate for Small World Media, the fantasy sports division of The Sporting News, and also worked as a management consultant for the Boston Consulting Group.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998 and a Ph.D in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011.
