While their pitching staff has again been decimated this season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have largely avoided significant injuries among their position players.
Though, that could be changing after Ma Muncy left Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning after being upended on Michael A. Taylor’s head-first slide. Taylor’s momentum carried him into Muncy’s left knee, causing it to bend inward.
Muncy immediately grabbed at his knee as he writhed on the ground in pain. He limped off the field with assistance from Dodgers trainer Thomas Albert and manager Dave Roberts said after the game Muncy was going to have an MRI on Thursday.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Dodgers are recalling Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Muncy’s spot on the roster:

Roberts said after the Dodgers’ walk-off win that there was initial optimism with Muncy’s injury based on initial testing done at Dodger Stadium. However, he cautioned the team would not have a full sense of the extent of the injury until Muncy underwent the MRI on his left knee.
Roberts also mentioned those results would dictate whether or not a stint on the injured list. Though, that appeared to be all but guaranteed even with a best-case scenario for Muncy.
Esteury Ruiz joining Dodgers
The Dodgers traded for Ruiz in April, sending pitching prospect Carlos Duran to the Athletics. Ruiz played in 132 games for the A’s in 2023, but struggled last year and only appeared in 29.
He’s been productive for the Comets this season, batting .292/.394/.458 with 16 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI over 66 games. Included in that is Ruiz hitting .337/.410/.551 since the start of June, and slugging a homer in each of his last two games.
Ruiz previously joined the Dodgers one month ago but remained on the taxi squad and was not activated due to Tommy Edman overcoming right ankle soreness.
