Dodgers Rumors: Eddie Rosario Signed To Minor League Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers roster presumably is set in terms of new additions, but the front office has continued to accrue organizational depth over recent days.

The Dodgers recently signed veteran reliever Luis García to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invite to Spring Training, and did so as well with former top prospect Michael Chavis.

According to Ari Alexander of KPRC2, the Dodgers have now signed Eddie Rosario to a Minor League deal:

Rosario coincidentally broke out against the Dodgers in the 2021 National League Championship Series. Rosario earned NLCS MVP honors for his remarkable performance. At the time a teammate of Freddie Freeman’s, Rosario helped the Braves win the World Series.

Whereas that was followed by Freeman not remaining with Atlanta, the team re-signed Rosario to a two-year, $18 million contract that fall. He then went on to largely struggle over the next two seasons and had a $9 team option declined by the Braves for 2024.

Rosario proceeded to sign a split contract with the Washington Nationals, which came with a $2 million guarantee if making their roster and potential to earn up to $4 million by reaching incentives.

Rosario indeed broke camp with the Nationals but was released in July. That led to a reunion with the Braves on a Minor League deal, though Rosario was designated for assignment one month later and became a free agent.

He signed a Minor League contract with the New York Mets but didn’t reach the Majors and spent less than two weeks as a member of their organization before getting released.

Rosario has hit .262/.298/.450 with 201 doubles, 29 triples, 169 home runs and 583 RBI in 1,121 games over parts of 10 seasons in the Majors.

He’s played for the Minnesota Twins (2015-2020), Cleveland Guardians (2021), Braves (2021-2023, 2024) and Nationals (2024).

Dodgers couldn’t solve NLCS MVP Eddie Rosario

Rosario went 14-for-25 (.560) with one double, one triple, three home runs, nine RBI and three walks against the Dodgers to earn NLCS MVP honors in 2021. Rosario’s 14 hits were the most in Braves history for a single playoff series and also tied an MLB postseason record for most in any LCS.

“We just couldn’t figure him out,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the elimination loss. “He beat us the other way, he beat us to the pull side, he got hits off lefties, off righties. We tried to spin him, we went hard. We just didn’t have an answer for him and when you’ve got that big guy looming behind him, it’s just kind of tough to pitch around him.

“Was clearly hot. We just didn’t have an answer for him.”
