The Los Angeles Dodgers reached the World Series for the first time since 1988 in 2017, and a lot of that is a credit to the job that their coaching staff and front office did throughout the course of the entire season.
It looks like the rest of the league took notice, as many Dodgers staff members have been targeted for positions on other teams, with Tim Hyers becoming the hitting coach of the Boston Red Sox, Gabe Kapler becoming the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies and Alex Anthopoulos taking over as general manager and executive vice president of the Atlanta Braves.
Additionally, third base coach Chris Woodward interviewed for the New York Yankees managerial position, although he eventually lost out on the job to Aaron Boone.
Boone has already started getting to work on putting together his coaching staff, and it appears one of the people he is targeting is another coach in the Dodgers organization, bullpen coach Josh Bard, via Ken Davidoff of the New York Post:
Josh Bard, an old teammate of Aaron Boone’s, has interviewed to join the Yankees’ coaching staff, multiple industry sources told The Post.
Bard was a teammate of Boone’s on the Cleveland Indians in 2005 and could potentially be in the running for the Yankees bench coach position.
The 39-year-old played 10 Major League seasons as a catcher with the Indians, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals and Seattle Mariners.
Bard has been in the Dodgers organization for the past five years, working as a special assistant to the front office in 2013, a professional scout in 2014 and 2015 and then as the bullpen coach for the Major League team in 2016 and 2017.
