Dodgers Roster: Ryan Pepiot Recalled As 29th Player For Doubleheader

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Ryan Pepiot from Triple-A Oklahoma City as the 29th player on the roster for their doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Although expanded rosters are 28 players for September, teams are permitted to carry 29 for any doubleheader played during the final month of the regular season.

On Monday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Pepiot would be available to pitch the bulk of the innings in the first game. Michael Grove remains the starter in the 12:10 p.m. PT game.

Pepiot has already been optioned to the Minors five times this season, which is the maximum for one season as part of MLB roster rules. However, he is eligible to return to Triple-A because being optioned as the extra player on the day of a doubleheader does not count against the limit.

The 25-year-old is now in his seventh stint with the Dodgers this season after making his Major League debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 11. Pepiot, one of the team’s top pitching prospects, previously said he has been using this season as a learning experience.

“Definitely feel more comfortable each time I’m going out there. I feel part of the team and like I’m helping any way I possibly can,” Pepiot said. “It’s definitely been awesome to be up here and be able to watch other people and actually get to watch it up close and personal. See how people pitch and how I can maybe emulate some things.

“Just taking it day-by-day, trying to build off each inning and just being able to be here and talk to guys, take everything in, has definitely been very beneficial.”

The right-hander has appeared in eight games for the Dodgers while making seven starts. He has pitched to a 3.78 ERA, 5.78 FIP and 1.53 WHIP while striking out 38 and walking 26 in 33.1 innings. With the OKC Dodgers, he has posted a 2.59 in 90.1 innings.

Tyler Anderson to start second game of doubleheader for Dodgers

Tyler Anderson is scheduled to return to the Dodgers roster from paternity leave to take the mound in the nightcap of the doubleheader, Roberts said on Monday.

Anderson’s return will come three days after he was first put on the paternity list. MLB rules required Anderson to miss a minimum of three days but no more than seven.
