The Los Angeles Dodgers sent Ryan Fitzgerald outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City after he cleared waivers.

Fitzgerald was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins earlier this month before getting designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Andy Ibáñez, who signed a one-year contract with the Dodgers worth $1.2 million.

Fitzgerald was previously designated for assignment by the Twins at the beginning of the year in order to make room on their 40-man roster for Eric Wagaman. He was acquired by Minnesota in a trade that sent Minor League pitcher Kade Bragg to the Miami Marlins.

Fitzgerald was originally an undrafted free agent who signed his first professional contract with the Boston Red Sox on May 15, 2018.

Fitzgerald has two option years remaining and should serve as Minor League depth with the Dodgers this season. He also figures to receive an invitation to big league camp in Spring Training.

Ryan Fitzgerald’s 2025 season

Fitzgerald made his MLB debut with the Twins last year, appearing in 24 games and hitting .196/.302/.457 with four home runs and nine RBI. While with Triple-A St. Paul, he batted .277/.367/.469 with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 31 RBI.

The 31-year-old has experience playing first base, second base, third base, shortstop and all three outfield positions. The bulk of Fitzgerald’s time in the Minors has come as a shortstop.

He played first base, second base, third base and shortstop for the Twins last season and also made a pair of pitching appearances.
