The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Nick Ramirez and optioned Michael Petersen ahead of their series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Wednesday night that Petersen would be optioned to add a fresh arm to the bullpen. The group has been overworked in recent days with their starters consistently failing to pitch deep into games.

Ramirez returns to the Dodgers after making six appearances and posting a 3.86 ERA in his previous stints with the club.

With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he was 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 15 games (two starts).

The southpaw has been in the Majors parts of five seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), San Diego Padres (2021), New York Yankees (2023) and Dodgers, going a combined 7-7 with a 4.03 ERA in 102 career games.

The 34-year-old was acquired by the Dodgers on April 2 from the Yankees for cash considerations.

Petersen pitched last night, allowing four runs on four hits in two innings. He made six appearances with the Dodgers, going 2-0 with a 4.66 ERA in 9.1 innings.

The 31-year-old has appeared in 23 games for the Oklahoma City with a perfect 2-0 record and a 1.61 ERA. He pitched in the Minor Leagues for eight seasons, tossing 263 innings in 167 games (18 starts) with a 10-11 record and 4.04 ERA before being selected for the first time on June 16.

He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Riverside Community College.

Michael Petersen’s long journey to Dodgers

Despite the long journey it took to get to this point, Petersen never doubted himself and always had a belief he would reach the Major Leagues at some point.

As a non-roster invitee in Spring Training, Petersen didn’t expect to make the Dodgers roster out of camp. However, that was never really his goal coming into this season as he was instead focused on making a positive impression early and see where things went.

The right-hander should get another chance with the Dodgers at some point this season, but if not, he provides them with some quality depth in Triple-A.
