The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Miguel Rojas on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to right forearm tightness. Nick Ahmed was signed to a Major League contract to help fill the void in Rojas’ absence.

Rojas’ IL stint was backdated to July 22 as he’d been out of the Dodgers lineup the past two games. Rojas was removed early from Sunday’s game because of the forearm injury that he explained stemmed from taking one-handed swings with a heavier bat than normal.

Rojas didn’t express much concern over the injury, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts originally pointed to Wednesday as when he would likely be back in the lineup.

But Roberts said on Wednesday that Rojas underwent an MRI that revealed a right flexor tendon strain.

After performing well in a backup role, Rojas became the everyday Dodgers shortstop in the time since Mookie Betts has been recovering from a left hand fracture.

The 35-year-old believes he remained plenty capable of a starting role but the Dodgers attempted to remain mindful of his workload.

Rojas is batting .271/.316/.406 with 17 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI over 67 games this season. His .722 on-base plus slugging percentage is on track to be Rojas’ highest mark since the 2020 season.

Dodgers shortstop plans without Miguel Rojas

Ahmed made his Dodgers debut at shortstop on Wednesday and figures to receive the bulk of starts there while Rojas is out and until Betts returns — likely sometime in August.

If not Ahmed, the Dodgers could turn to Kiké Hernández or Chris Taylor to help fill in as well.

Roberts expressed confidence in the group of players the Dodgers plan to rely on for the time being.
