Dodgers Roster: Max Muncy Placed On 10-Day Injured List, Tommy Kahnle Transferred To 60-Day IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list and transferred Tommy Kahnle to the 60-day IL as part of the corresponding roster moves to selecting the contract of Kevin Pillar and recalling Michael Grove from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Muncy’s injury designation is left elbow inflammation and comes two days after Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team was considering placing him on the IL. Still recovering from a dislocated left elbow and torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), Muncy banged his arm into protective netting and a metal bar during a game at Nationals Park.

Although Muncy has not used last season’s elbow injury as reason for his struggles, it’s presumed to at least have played some part in his slow start this year.

Having appeared in 41 games, Muncy is batting .150/.327/.263 with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 14 RBI. He last played in the series finale against the Washington Nationals.

Prior to his recent elbow trouble, Roberts indicated Muncy was likely to begin making more starts at third base and Justin Turner was due to shift to being in the lineup as the designated hitter.

Dodgers bullpen without Kahnle, Treinen

Kahnle joins Blake Treinen as key Dodgers relievers who are on the 60-day IL. Kahnle wasn’t activated until May 1 and only appeared in four games before going on the 10-day IL due to a bone bruise in his right elbow that is some residual effects of undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Neither Kahnle or Treinen has resumed throwing, but the Dodgers belief both will return at some point this season.

Treinen has declined to provide specifics of his right shoulder trouble.
