Dodgers Roster: Max Muncy Activated, Luke Williams Optioned

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Max Muncy off the paternity list and optioned Luke Williams to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to make room on their 26-man roster.

Muncy returns after missing all three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park while on paternity leave. Per MLB roster rules, players on the paternity list are required to be away from the team for at least one day but no more than three.

Muncy is back after being named the National League Player of the Week for games played April 17-23. The 32-year-old hit .389 (7-for-18) with five home runs, seven RBI, nine walks, one stolen base and five runs scored across seven games during the span.

Muncy is now batting .254/.411/.718 with an MLB-best 11 home runs, 21 RBI, a .462 wOBA and 194 wRC+ in 22 games this season.

Williams appeared in four games (three starts) after getting called up from OKC, managing just one hit in 10 at-bats over that span. Williams joined the Dodgers when Mookie Betts was put on the paternity list last week.

His arrival provided the team with needed shortstop depth as Miguel Rojas was on the 10-day injured list and Chris Taylor was limited by an oblique injury.

Williams getting optioned provides more opportunities for Michael Busch, who joined the Dodgers when Muncy went on paternity leave.

Dodgers roster changes

In addition to Muncy, the Dodgers reinstated Brusdar Graterol from paternity leave and activated Will Smith off the concussion list before Friday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Graterol also missed the Pirates series, while Smith had been out the last two weeks because of lingering headaches from what he considered a mild concussion.
