The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Andrew Vasquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Luke Raley ahead of their series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Vasquez is back up with the team for a second time since being acquired from the Minnesota Twins in a trade for Stevie Berman. Neither Berman nor Vasquez were on the 40-man roster, which made the Minor League trade a possibility.

Furthermore, because it was finalized roughly 10 minutes before Sept. 1, Vasquez is eligible to appear in the postseason for the Dodgers.

Vasquez has appeared in two games for L.A. thus far, allowing one unearned run and collecting three strikeouts over 1.2 innings. He’s allowed two runs on five hits over five innings across five appearances for Oklahoma City.

Vasquez went 4-0 with a 3.61 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 42.1 innings across 33 games for the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate before the trade. He has spent parts of three seasons in the Majors with the Twins (2018-19) and L.A. Angels (2021).

Raley is removed from the Dodgers’ active roster five days after getting recalled as the corresponding move to Cody Bellinger being placed on the 10-day injured list due to a non-displaced fracture in his left ribs.

He appeared in all three games against the Colorado Rockies during that span, including making two starts in right field. Raley went a combined 2-for-7 with one home run and two RBI.

Although Raley made his MLB debut earlier this season, he’s primarily spent the year with OKC, where he’s hit .295/.394/.579 with 14 doubles, two triples, 18 homers and 66 RBI in 67 games.

AJ Pollock returning from the IL and and Gavin Lux continuing to perform well in an outfield role made Raley exchangeable for pitching depth.

Raley learning with Dodgers

Having been up and down with L.A. over six separate stints this year, Raley said he’s focused on keeping optimistic and valuing the learning opportunities that have come.
