Dodgers Rookie Emmet Sheehan ‘Feeling Great’ With Rehab Progress

Emmet Sheehan was one of a handful of pitchers expected to compete for a backend spot in the Los Angeles Dodgers starting rotation for the 2024 season.

In some sense he was favored to to be included in the rotation after showcasing elite stuff during the 2023 season. Unfortunately, Sheehan never had the opportunity to compete as he was hamstrung by body soreness early on in Spring training.

That was only the beginning as Sheehan was later diagnosed with right forearm inflammation which required him to be placed on the injured list in March and eventually led to Tommy John surgery in May.

Now almost nine months removed from the procedure, Sheehan is pleased with how his recovery process is unfolding.

“I’ve been feeling great,” Sheehan said. “I’m throwing, about eight and a half months out of surgery, so it’s been all good. They take really good care of us down in Arizona when we’re rehabbing, so that’s been awesome. Good group of guys.”

Sheehan has been throwing off of the mound for around three weeks, putting him on a timeline to potentially begin a rehab assignments in May or June if everything continues to go according to plan.

Sheehan is slightly shocked by the amount of progress he has made compared to the initial projection, but the Dodgers are confident in the rate at which he is progressing.

“I kind of thought it would be more July, but everything has been going pretty smooth. I think that’s basically how they’re feeling about it,” he said.

With the additions made during the offseason, along with Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May also returning from respective injruies, the Dodgers are once again filled to the brim with starting pitching options for 2025.

Of course, it didn’t seem to do them much good last season as they were eventually down to just three starters for the playoffs. The Dodgers figure to have better injury luck in 2025, but that may not amount to many opportunities for Sheehan thi syear.

Emmet Sheehan visits Pacific Palisades

Despite the grueling work that rehabbing from Tommy John surgery requires, Sheehan still found some time to be active in the community.

He joined Ben Casparius and Shohei Ohtani on a visit to the Pacific Palisades fire station as part of the 2025 Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour.
