Los Angeles Dodgers reporter Alanna Rizzo announced she is stepping away after seven seasons of covering the team for SportsNet LA. Rizzo is among the network’s original members since its launch in February 2014.

During her time with the Dodgers, Rizzo travelled with the team for all road games, was on location for the annual Winter Meetings, assisted with SportsNet LA studio coverage and also provided a “Rizzo Report” for AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio.

When MLB underwent sweeping changes last season because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Rizzo embraced the challenge of covering all games from Dodger Stadium and with access eliminated to in-person interviews.

Prior to joining the Dodgers’ broadcast team, she spent time at MLB Network and in lesser-known Wichita Falls, Texas. Her successful reporting career concludes with seven Emmy Awards.

In 2019, Rizzo launched Guidry’s Guardian Foundation to carry out her passion of saving dogs in need.

“It took a year to kind of get over the step of being scared and daunted and overwhelmed, to finally launching it,” she told DodgerBlue.com of creating her foundation.

“It was challenging, but I think it was more daunting than anything. To have it in your mind and on your heart, and then to actually make it happen, was really daunting and challenging. But now the work is actually beginning.

“If I save one dog, it was worth all of it.”

Prior to the pandemic prompting shutdowns across the country, Rizzo hosted a scorekeeping event to pass on her knowledge to other women interested in baseball and raise money for Guidry’s Guardian Foundation.

Rizzo has primarily served Southern California since her foundation’s inception, but she envisioned growing it to help pets nationwide.

Dodgers beat writer sails off into sunset

Rizzo is the second member from the Dodgers’ coverage who will not return this season, as Ken Gurnick announced his retirement from the beat. Gurnick covered the Dodgers for MLB.com since 2001 and prior to that was with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
