A historic 18-inning marathon between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series at Dodger Stadium will not be forgotten any time soon.

Thanks to Max Muncy’s walk-off blast against Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, the Dodgers successfully trimmed their Fall Classic deficit to 2-1.

Doing so took an extended amount of time, however — 7 hours and 20 minutes to be exact. That officially made Game 3 the longest in World Series history, both by time and innings played.

“You know, to be honest, as the game kept going, you look up and see the 18th inning and you’re like, ‘Holy cow, where did the game go?'” Muncy said. “But those last nine innings or so just kind of blended together. As far as the dugout out went, there was no deflation, no give-up, nothing at all.

“They got that run, and we said, we’ve got to get another one. There was no panic or anything, just “let’s just get to work. That was pretty good to see from the guys.”

A combined 561 pitches were thrown in Game 3. The Dodgers threw 278 of them, using nine pitchers as part of their team-wide effort. The Red Sox also used nine arms, including three starters in Rich Porcello, David Price and Eovaldi.

With 18 pitchers taking the mound between both clubs in Game 3, another MLB postseason record was set.

An overall 46 players also appeared in the contest, which represents an additional World Series record. Only the Dodgers’ Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu, as well as the Red Sox’s Chris Sale and Drew Pomeranz didn’t factor into equation.
