The Los Angeles Dodgers recently paid tribute to more than 80 employees with 25 or more years of service during a pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium.
The annual tradition included recognizing Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín (67 years), Manny Mota (56), Single-A Rancho Cucamonga manager John Shoemaker (48), Charlie Hough (45), Rick Monday (40) and Steve Yeager (39).
Despite Jarrín retiring from his role as the Dodgers’ Spanish-language broadcaster after the 2022 season, he agreed to remain involved with the organization in an ambassador role for two years and has maintained a presence beyond that.
“Representing the Dodgers mainly within the Latino community,” Jarrín said in October 2022. “They have asked me to be with them, so I’m going to stay for two years. They wanted me for more than two years, but let’s see.
“I’m sure my love for the Dodgers is not going to end this year. After 64 years, I’ve really fallen in love with baseball and the Dodgers. They have been great with me. They have supported me, they have given me an opportunity. The Dodgers always were behind me.
“They treated me with respect. One thing I can tell you is I have never had any problem with anybody. I have been very fortunate to have really professional colleagues. They have been great.”
Like others have posted, we were saddened to learn about the passing of James Mims.
If you ever walked by the Dodger Stadium press box, you saw James sitting in his usual spot. He was a constant in our decade-plus of covering the team, always there to greet us.
