The Los Angeles Dodgers formally recalled Julio Urias from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Charlie Culberson back to OKC. Culberson joined the Dodgers on Tuesday and started in place of Corey Seager, who is battling a stomach virus.
Culberson went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and is 8-for-30 with two doubles and five RBIs in 16 games with the Dodgers this season. He’s batting .289/.333/.406 with 13 doubles, two home runs and 19 RBIs in 46 games for Oklahoma City.
Urias’ start in Thursday’s rubber match against the Washington Nationals is his first in the Majors since July 4. He was optioned to Oklahoma City after the outing, where the club planned for Urias to work as a starter and reliever in order to limit his workload.
His lone appearance since being sent to the Minors was one inning of relief on July 10. In eight Major League starts, Urias owns a 4.95 ERA and 1.54 WHIP to go with 44 strikeouts.
He allowed two runs on six hits and had six strikeouts in five innings of work when he faced the Nationals at Dodger Stadium on June 22. Bryce Harper struck out three times when facing Urias.
Including time with Oklahoma City and the Dodgers, the young southpaw has thrown 78.1 innings this season.
