The Los Angeles Dodgers announced a slew of changes within their front office, headlined by Brandon Gomes being promoted from director of player development to vice president and assistant general manager.

Additionally, Will Rhymes was promoted from assistant farm director to director of player development, Alex Slater was named director of baseball operations (previously director of development and scouting), and Duncan Webb as director of baseball resources.

The latest moves represent another rapid ascension for Gomes. He first joined the Dodgers organization in November 2016 as pitching coordinator of performance. Gomes’ focus was on assisting Minor League pitchers.

He was promoted to director of player development in December 2017, filling a void that was created when the Philadelphia Phillies hired Gabe Kapler as manager.

In addition to Gomes, the Dodgers have a second assistant general manager in Jeff Kingston. He was hired by the team late last year after holding the same position with the Seattle Mariners.

Rhymes joined the Dodgers in 2016, working as a scout for two seasons before earning a promotion to assistant farm director last year. Like Friedman, Slater became a member of the front office in 2014.

He previously worked as a baseball operations assistant in the professional scouting department of the San Diego Padres from 2009–14.

Webb joined the Dodgers in 2015 as coordinator of international player development. He additionally held various roles over the past four seasons at the Campo Las Palmas complex in the Dominican Republic.

The Dodgers have not hired a direct replacement for former GM Farhan Zaidi, who now is the head of the San Francisco Giants front office. Last December, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said the team would not add a new general manager to the front office.

Upon dealing with Zaidi’s departure during busy time in the offseason, the Dodgers split his duties between vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes, Gomes and Slater.
