Dodgers Postseason Roster: Dustin May, Julio Urias & Tony Gonsolin Active For Wild Card Round

The Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up the regular season with a Freeway Series sweep of the L.A. Angels, finishing with the best record in all of baseball at 43-17.

The Dodgers head into the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the National League, although like all other teams, they will play a best-of-three Wild Card Series against the Milwaukee Brewers that begins on Wednesday.

Perhaps the biggest question mark for the Dodgers is their starting rotation behind Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw. Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May and Julio Urias figure to factor into a potential Game 3 of the Wild Card round, and moving forward if the Dodgers advance.

In recent weeks they have been testing all three of those young starters out of the bullpen, so it is unclear what their roles in October will be. What is guaranteed is Gonsolin, May and Urias will each be on the postseason roster.

Gonsolin has been the best starter of the bunch, but Roberts indicated they are still not sure if he will be included in the rotation. “He’ll be on the roster, we’ve just got to figure out in what capacity,” Roberts said.

Without the luxury of off days in the middle of series, the Dodgers will have to use four or maybe even all five of their starters later in the the postseason. They could get creative with openers or bullpen games.

Even if Gonsolin, May or Urias aren’t used as a starter in the traditional sense, it wouldn’t be a surprise if any of the three are still earmarked to pitch the majority of the game.

Rios makes postseason roster

In addition to the trio of young starting pitchers, Roberts also recently said that Edwin Rios is in the picture for the postseason roster as well.

The Dodgers are only expected to carry 12 or 13 pitchers in the Wild Card round, which leaves plenty of spots for position players like Rios and Gavin Lux.
