The Los Angeles Dodgers activated All-Star closer Kenley Jansen ahead of Monday’s series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals, and as a corresponding move, placed Zac Rosscup on the 10-day disabled list with a left calf strain.

Jansen, who was out the last week and a half due to a heart issue, was cleared to return after meeting with a cardiologist on Monday morning.

Having Jansen back is certainly good news for the Dodgers as their bullpen struggled tremendously in his absence. Specifically over a five-game stretch when they took losses in all five games with four of them coming in the ninth inning.

Jansen is in the midst of another outstanding season for the Dodgers, posting a 2.15 ERA, 3.13 FIP and 0.90 WHIP while striking out 61 and walking 14 in 54.1 innings. He has recorded 32 saves in 35 opportunities.

Rosscup last pitched for the Dodgers on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners when he closed out a 12-1 victory with an immaculate inning.

Overall in eight games with the Dodgers this season, Rosscup has posted a 6.75 ERA, 6.46 FIP and 1.20 WHIP while striking out 10 and walking one in 6.2 innings. He was claimed off waivers from the Colorado Rockies.

The calf injury likely isn’t a serious one, and he should be activated around the time when rosters expand on Sept. 1.
