Dodgers-Padres Series Finale At Petco Park Rained Out; Doubleheader Scheduled For Sept. 2

To no surprise, the three-game series finale between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres was rained out Sunday and rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 2. The rainout is the third Petco Park’s history since the stadium opened in 2004.

Sunday’s makeup game will be played at 12:40 p.m. PT on Sept. 2, with the already-scheduled contest and now nightcap of the doubleheader slated to begin at 5:40 p.m.

There were scattered showers Saturday afternoon and into the evening, though the Dodgers-Padres contest was unaffected. A light drizzle arrived at Petco Park during the latter stages of the game, leaving a windchill factor and temperatures in the low 60s as the only elements to brave.

Due to the expected inclement weather, the Padres previously announced the cancellation of Sunday’s pregame activities, including Kidsfest, Domingos Padres presented by T-Mobile and Compadres Kids Sunday Signings. Postgame Kids Run the Bases had also been canceled.

During Saturday’s game, an announcement to cancel the postgame fireworks was made via the video board, citing “high winds.”

The timing of Sunday’s rainout could be worse for the Dodgers, considering Kenley Jansen was likely to be unavailable. What’s more, Brandon McCarthy receives another day of rest. McCarthy already had his scheduled start pushed back from Saturday due to tweaking his left shoulder on Wednesday.

The last rainout the Dodgers were involved in was Game 2 of the 2016 National League Division Series. That proved to be a curious decision as skies cleared at Nationals Park less soon after the decision was made to postpone the game.
