A Los Angeles Dodgers ofrenda was set up at Dodger Stadium to pay tribute to the late Mike Brito, Tommy Lasorda, Vin Scully and Maury Wills, among others with ties to the organization in recognition of Día de Los Muertos. All but Lasorda passed away this year.

The Hall of Fame manager died in January 2021 at the age of 93. Lasorda was survived by his wife of 70 years, Jo, their daughter and granddaughter. Jo Lasorda then passed away in September of that year.

During his tenure as Dodgers manager, Tommy Lasorda led the Dodgers to four National League pennants, two World Series titles and finished with a 1,599-1,439 record.

He was named National League Manager of the Year in 1983 and 1988, and maintained ties to the organization as either a player, coach, scout, manager, executive or special advisor for 71 years.

Brito was 87 years old when he passed away in July. Brito helped sign more than 30 players to the Dodgers organization who then went on to play in the Majors, including Fernando Valenzuela, Robert “Bobby” Castillo, Julio Urías, Yasiel Puig, Ismael Vadez, Antonio Osuna, Juan Castro and Dennis Reyes.

Brito was a fixture at Dodger Stadium, often sitting behind home plate, wearing his trademark Panama hat, and with a cigar and radar gun in tow. As part of the annual Dodgers dress-up day in 2021, Jaime Jarrín went as Brito and placed fifth in voting for best costume.

The Dodgers have celebrated Scully on several occasions since he passed away in August. The team wore a commemorative jersey patch in his honor and held a special ceremony at Dodger Stadium before their first home game after his death.

Scully’s 67 years as Dodgers broadcaster is the longest tenure in all of sports.

The franchise lost another of its icons when Wills passed away in September. Like Scully, they honored him with a jersey patch.

Dodgers celebrate Día de Los Muertos

During a September home game, an ofrenda was constructed in the center field plaza at Dodger Stadium for Día de Los Dodgers. Fans were able to pay their respects to Brito, Lasorda, Scully and Wills.
