Dodgers Offense Fails To Capitalize, Resulting In Mexico Series Loss To Padres

After a rough showing on Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers looked to salvage their series against the San Diego Padres in Monterrey, Mexico in the third and final game on Sunday.

They weren’t able to do that though, stranding 13 runners on bases and falling to the Padres 3-0 to drop to 15-19 on the season.

The Dodgers offense could not capitalize on the opportunities presented to the by Padres starter Eric Lauer. The Dodgers had plenty of opportunities to score, but went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base in Lauer’s six innings of work.

Lauer gave up seven hits and walked one in six innings while striking out five, and left the game with a lead which put him in line for his first career Major League victory.

Ross Stripling got the start on the mound for the Dodgers, and much like Lauer, he was able to pitch in and out of trouble. He gave up two singles and a walk with to load up the bases with one out in the second, but he got a pop-up and a strikeout to escape the jam.

Overall, Stripling tossed four shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks while striking out five. The first Dodger reliever out of the bullpen, Tony Cingrani, did not fare as well though.

Cingrani gave up a one-out single to Travis Jankowski in the fifth, and that was followed by a two-run home run to center off the bat of Eric Hosmer to give San Diego a 2-0 lead through five.

The Padres then added to their lead in the seventh inning when Jankowski led off with a triple down the right-field line. He later scored on a single by Franchy Cordero extending the lead to 3-0.

The Dodgers offense had more opportunities to score off the Padres bullpen in the later innings but again could not capitalize leading to the 3-0 loss.
