The Los Angeles Dodgers’ rash of injuries claimed Yasiel Puig on Thursday afternoon as he was removed in the seventh inning with right hamstring tightness, per Alanna Rizzo on the Time Warner Cable SportsNet LA broadcast.
Puig wasn’t in the lineup for the rubber match against the Washington Nationals, but entered with two outs in bottom of the sixth as part of a double switch. He led off the seventh with a grounder and appeared to injure himself on the attempt to leg out an infield single.
Puig pulled up awkwardly as he closed in on first base, walked slowly off the field and headed for the clubhouse. He missed time in June with a left hamstring strain, and was twice forced to the DL last season for a strain in each hamstring.
After returning June 21, Puig hit .301/.392/.422 with four doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs over 25 games (22 starts).
He entered the day batting .257/.319/.379 and with Thursday’s appearance is now just one game shy of matching last year’s 79 games played, which was a career low.
The 25-year-old Puig was the subject of recent trade rumors, with the Dodgers said to be open to dealing him. Colorado Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez emerged as the latest outfielder tied to the Dodgers.
