Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Launches Campaign To Raise Relief For Mexico And Puerto Rico

On the heels of Kiké Hernandez organizing a campaign to raise funds for Hurricane Maria relief efforts in Puerto Rico, Yasiel Puig has followed suit. Puig’s campaign is to provide aid for those in Puerto Rico and Mexico.

As of this writing, he’s raised just shy of $400 toward a goal of $300,000. Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico as the strongest storm to hit the region since 1928.

It toppled trees, shattered windows, ripped roofs off homes and flooded streets. In addition, more than 3 million citizens were left without power. Rescue efforts remain ongoing as of Friday.

Meanwhile, Mexico is recovering from this week’s 7.1-magnitude earthquake. The epicenter was just over 400 miles from the 8.1-magnitude quake that hit Sept. 8.

Buildings in and around Mexico City collapsed, and entire towns have been flattened. Rescue workers have kept searching as the death toll has already risen to over 280.

While Puig does not have a direct tie to Puerto Rico, he defected to Mexico and established residency in the country prior to signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Puig was among those in the organization to donate to Harvey relief efforts in Texas.

He’s also been active in the Los Angeles community of late, providing supplies for inside the classroom and athletics to multiple elementary schools through his Wild Horse Foundation.
