Dodgers News: Wait Continues For MLB To Decide On Yasiel Puig’s Appeals Hearing For 2-Game Suspension

Just like in seasons past, a game at Dodger Stadium between San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers grew contentious, and Yasiel Puig was in the middle of the scuffle. Oddly, however, the benches-clearing brawl began because Puig was upset at himself after fouling a pitch off.

Giants catcher Nick Hundley took exception to Puig’s outward display of frustration, leading to an exchange of words. Hundley came up from his crouch, was shoved by Puig, and the dustup was on.

Players separated Hundley and Puig, who both were ejected. The Dodgers’ polarizing outfielder later received a fine and two-game suspension. MLB identified him as the instigator in the situation. Hundley skirted with only a fine.

That ruling was handed down Aug. 16, and like he said would be the case in the event of a suspension, Puig appealed it. His hearing with the league didn’t take place until Aug. 28.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the club has not heard about the result of the meeting, nor is he aware of when it might be passed along, via Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

“I don’t know what’s going on with the appeal,” Roberts said. “I know we appealed, but as far as a final decision, I don’t know what’s going on. Hopefully it just slipped through the cracks.”

Puig has remained eligible and appeared in 13 of the Dodgers’ 17 games since the incident. He has been suspended once prior to this case, in 2017 for an obscene gesture made toward Cleveland Indians fans.

That cost Puig one game and a fine as well. He did not appeal MLB’s ruling.
