Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Receiving No Run Support In Last 5 Starts

Tyler Glasnow was acquired in the offseason to remedy a need at the front of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation.

He’s since been stellar, leading the National League in innings pitched, while providing the club with length in each outing. In 13 starts, Glasnow is 6-4 with a 2.93 ERA, 2.70 FIP with an opposing batting average of .171 in 80 innings pitched.

His performance would otherwise amount to more marks in his personal win column, but the Dodgers’ offense has fallen flat in Glasnow’s last five starts. Since his May 10 start against the San Diego Padres leading through Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the bats have scored a total of zero runs while he’s in the game.

The remarkable feat is usually reserved for teams playing at a subpar rate, not for a Dodgers club that holds a seven game division lead, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I didn’t know,” Glasnow said of the unsupportive offense. “But baseball is hard. I mean, beginning of the year, I feel like every time I pitched, it was like 10 runs. It just kind of has to even itself out.”

Glasnow’s individual performance rivals that of any starter around Major League Baseball, providing them with an opportunity to win each time he steps on the mound.

Those around the Dodgers, including staff, have brushed off any notion that the team is lacking preparation, but simply running through a cold spell.

However it is, the Dodgers’ ace is proving the front office right for investing in him as the lead man and a true force in the NL Cy Young race.

Where does Tyler Glasnow rank among National League starters

Entering play on June 5, Glasnow ranked second in the NL with 80 innings pitched, which has him on pace for career numbers in terms of usage. So far, he’s shown no signs of wear and tear, with his stuff continuing to get better.

Slotting behind fellow Dodgers starter Gavin Stone, Glasnow ranks eighth in ERA, fourth in FIP, with the second-best strikeouts per nine (11.7).

His average fastball velocity sits at 96.4 mph and holds a top-10 lowest hard hit rate at 26.4%.
