Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin Pitches 5 Innings In Potentially Final Rehab Start

Tony Gonsolin continued his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday and turned in another encouraging performance as he inched closer to returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The right-hander completed a season-high five innings, which is a goal manager Dave Roberts had set out for the outing. Gonsolin pitched into the sixth inning but was removed after yielding a leadoff home run to Matthew Lugo.

The 30-year-old ran into some trouble in the fourth when he loaded the bases with one out, but escaped without giving up a run. Gonsolin’s final line was five-plus innings pitched, four hits, two runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

Gonsolin threw 79 pitches in the outing, with his fastball topping out at 95 mph. He induced five groundouts, including a double play in the bottom of the first.

In four rehab starts with the Oklahoma City Comets, Gonsolin has posted a 3.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 16-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 14 innings.

Gonsolin began the 2025 season on the 15-day injured list after tweaking his back while lifting weights during a workout late in Spring Training. He hasn’t pitched in the Majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery after a start against the Miami Marlins on Aug. 18, 2023.

When could Tony Gonsolin return to Dodgers?

The Dodgers are beginning a stretch of six consecutive games without an off day and will likely need to call up two starting pitchers for their series against the Marlins.

Gonsolin could make his 2025 debut on Tuesday — which would be on five days’ rest — and fittingly against the team he last faced before undergoing surgery.

Gonsolin’s imminent return comes at a time in which Blake Snell has been shut down from throwing after experiencing discomfort while playing catch at Wrigley Field.
