Dodgers News: Ross Stripling Thinks It Would Be ‘Awesome’ To Make All-Star Team, But Isn’t Focusing On It

With the 2018 All-Star Game selections set to be unveiled on Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers figure to once again be heavily represented in the Midsummer Classic.

Matt Kemp was frequently listed among the top-3 vote-getters for National League outfielders in the voting ballot updates, while the a trio of other Dodgers players in Cody Bellinger, Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner routinely checked in at the top-five of their respective positions as well.

The Dodgers have received a number of unexpected contributions this season from Max Muncy and Ross Stripling, who both figure to get strong consideration as well.

While Stripling would be honored to receive his career All-Star nod, it isn’t necessarily something he’s focusing on, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“Yeah – in a good way,” Stripling said. “I’m trying not to let it affect me on the field at all. But obviously, I see things on Twitter. Family and friends keep asking. You guys keep asking. So obviously it’s in the back of my mind. It would be awesome if I make it. But I try not to worry about it too much.”

Stripling has been a welcome addition to the Dodgers starting rotation in the midst of a plethora of injuries at the start of the season.

In 24 games (13 starts), the 28-year-old has compiled a 2.22 ERA, which is the fifth-best in all of baseball, to go along with a 2.74 FIP and 1.08 WHIP over 89.1 innings pitched with 103 strikeouts to only 13 walks.

He may have cemented his All-Star case with another strong performance against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Saturday, giving up just three hits and one run in six innings while striking out seven en route to his seventh win of the season.
