Dodgers News: Ross Stripling Makes National League All-Star Team As Replacement

Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Los Angeles Dodgers starter Ross Stripling has made the National League All-Star team as a replacement for St. Louis Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas, who is scheduled to start on the Sunday before the game.

How important Stripling has been for the Dodgers this season cannot be stated enough considering he stepped up in a big way with Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill, Kenta Maeda, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Walker Buehler all missing time due to injury.

Stripling is in the midst of a breakout season for the Dodgers after beginning the season in the bullpen and then being forced into the starting rotation due to those injuries.

In 24 games (13 starts), Stripling is 7-2 with a 2.22 ERA, 2.75 FIP and 1.08 WHIP while striking out an impressive 103 batters compared to just 13 walks in 89.1 innings.

Stripling made the team in the same fashion that teammate Alex Wood did in 2017 as both players were snubbed at first in the midst of All-Star caliber seasons, but made it in as replacements due to injury or other starters pitching on the Sunday before.

In what will be his first career All-Star Game, Stripling joins teammates Matt Kemp and Kenley Jansen, as well as manager Dave Roberts and the team’s coaching staff in Washington D.C.

Stripling stepping up as the ace of the Dodgers is not something that anyone could have predicted before the start of the season, so it is nice to see him being rewarded for his efforts.
