Dodgers News: Rich Hill Enjoys ‘Challenge’ Of Pitching At Coors Field

The Los Angeles Dodgers rebounded with a convincing offensive performance in Sunday’s 9-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies, further closing the gap to a mere half-game out of first place in the National League West.

As one would typically expect at Coors Field, runs were aplenty for both clubs on Sunday. Rich Hill was less than stellar, but nevertheless still serviceable in the Dodgers’ victory.

In five-plus innings, he allowed four hits (one home run) and four runs with seven strikeouts. It was Hill’s second start in less than a month at the hitters’ haven, to which he’s earned a victory on each occasion.

After his latest outing in Denver, Hill revealed that he enjoys the challenge of pitching at Coors Field and would never back away from an opportunity to take the mound there, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

“I look at it as a challenge. I love it. I’d take the ball every time here.”

While most pitchers generally dread starts at Coors Field, Hill clearly has a different approach when it pertains to the ballpark.

Despite having 14 years of MLB experience under his belt, the left-hander owns just five career starts there, having compiled a 1-2 record, 7.18 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 26.1 innings.

While Sunday’s contest marked the Dodgers’ last regular season stop at Coors Field, it remains a viable possibility that Hill and the Dodgers could once again square off against the Rockies come October.

The two teams are scheduled to next meet up for a three-game series at Dodger Stadium from Sept. 17-19, which will likely have significant postseason implications in what has been a tightly-contested NL West race.
