The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled utility man Micah Johnson from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Monday’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants. Micah joins the Dodgers for a second time this season.

He was called up in early April when the Dodgers were facing the Giants at AT&T Park. Johnson appeared off the bench in two games, going 0-for-3. During 120 regular-season games with Oklahoma City, Johnson hit .261/.321/.356 with 23 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 37 RBI.

The 25-year-old also had 26 stolen bases in 37 attempts. Johnson swung a hot bat during Oklahoma City’s playoff run that ended when they were eliminated Saturday by El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres affiliate) in Game 4 of the Pacific Coast League championship.

Over nine playoff games, Johnson hit .375/.432/.475 with two doubles, one triple, one RBI, four walks and eight stolen bases. “I think that for him he had a great postseason,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday.

“As far as using him off the bench as a speed guy that can steal a base, maybe a bat off the bench, it’s rewarding a young man that performed.” Johnson was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in December’s three-team trade.

He began the 2015 season as the starting second baseman for the White Sox, but struggled at the plate and was demoted to Triple-A Charlotte. Johnson returned in September and batted .230/.306/.270 with four doubles and four RBI on the year.

A corresponding roster move was not required as Johnson was already on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. Los Angeles now has 36 active players.

Chris Taylor stands as the lone player on the 40-man roster who is not on the disabled list or with the club.
