Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker became just the 12th manager and first African-American manager in Major League history to reach 2,000 career wins.

His 2,000th win came when the Astros defeated the Seattle Mariners, 4-0, on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

The three-time manager of the year and two-time pennant winner has spent his 25-year managerial career with the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals and now the Astros.

After Baker reached the milestone, Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Magic Johnson congratulated the skipper on Twitter and shared his hopes for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to eventually join Baker in reaching 2,000 career wins as well:

Congratulations to Dusty Baker for becoming the 12th manager in MLB history to win 2,000 games! He is the first Black manager to win 2,000 games and I hope Dave Roberts can accomplish the same feat!

— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) May 4, 2022

Of the previous 11 managers to reach 2,000 career wins, 10 are in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The only member of those first 11 managers to reach 2,000 wins that is not in the Hall of Fame is Bruce Bochy, who is not yet eligible.

He is the only manager in MLB history to have reached the postseason and won division titles with five different teams. Bochy is also one of just nine managers to reach the World Series in both the American and National League.

Additionally, he joined Joe Torre as one of only two individuals in MLB history to produce 1,800 hits as a player and 1,800 wins as a manager.

In addition to his success as a manager, as a player, he was an All-Star, Gold Glove winner, Silver Slugger winner, NLCS MVP and a World Series champion.

Baker will manage AL All-Star team at Dodger Stadium

In 2020, Dusty Baker was looking forward to managing the AL All-Stars at Dodger Stadium, where he played eight years of his career.

Although he didn’t lead the Astros to the World Series in 2019, Baker replaced fired manager A.J. Hinch after the organization was punished for its sign-stealing scandal.

Unfortunately, the game was canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But now with the All-Star game coming back to L.A. for the 2022 season, Baker will get the chance to manage the AL All-Stars at Dodger Stadium as the Astros are the defending AL champions.
